Breath,
Interactive Installation, 2002
Breath
portrays the vulnerability and impermanence of life through
images of living things that appear to break apart, then
reform, when blown. Visitors view a projection of a softly
moving image of a dandelion. The surface contains a condenser
microphone element that responds to different frequencies
in human breath. If the visitor blows, the sensor is triggered,
and dandelion seeds in the image will fly away. As the visitor
continues to blow, the dandelion itself blows apart. New
images appear in turn: a leaf, a flame, a child, each responding
to the strength of breath.
